Base Camp Pizza Co., a year-round favorite!

Tahoe heats up during the summer, but did you know that the fall is one of the loveliest times to visit? Although it’s considered the off-season, this time of year offers mild weather and smaller crowds. Here are a few events that are particularly popular:

Oktoberfest can be found various places and dates from late September through October. Visit Squaw Valley on September 23rd or Camp Richardson on October 7th and 8th.

The Kokanee Salmon Festival at Taylor Creek celebrates the fall migration of the Kokanee salmon. This free family event is held October 7th and 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Join in a salmon feed or perhaps a 5k, 10k or 1/2 marathon.

Apple Hill is open year-round but is always fun during autumn. Pick apples, sample apple ciders and apple pies, visit a winery and enjoy the fall colors!

Summertime in Tahoe is full of wonderful events and activities! Here are a few things we always look forward to:

Harvey’s Summer Concert Series: Running from June through September, this year’s line-up includes Paul Simon, The Who, Jack Johnson, Lenny Kravitz and more!
Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor: Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy live theater right on the lake! This year’s plays include Love’s Labour’s Lost and The Hound of the Baskervilles, as well as other live entertainment.
Valhalla Renaissance Fair: Hosted at Camp Richardson June 10th and 11th, this year marks the 25th anniversary of this family-friendly celebration.
4th of July Lights on the Lake Fireworks: Each year, Lake Tahoe puts on a spectacular fireworks show to celebrate the 4th. NBC’s Today Show calls it one of the top fireworks display in the country! Follow the link to find some of the top spots to view the event.
The Celebrity Golf Tournament at Edgewood: July 11th-16th, 80 pro athletes and Hollywood celebrities will compete in this ever-popular event on Lake Tahoe.
Hot August Nights: Celebrating America’s love of classic cars and rock ‘n roll, this year’s event will be held in Virginia City on August 4th-5th and Reno/Sparks on August 8th-13th.

A tour of the historic Virginia City or a Thunderbird Lodge Tour (by land, boat or kayak) might just round out those summer days… what are your favorite ways to spend summer in Tahoe?

Hot Spots in Lake Tahoe

Planning a trip to Lake Tahoe and looking for the latest hot spots? Here’s a list of some local-favorites to enjoy:

The Loft at Heavenly Village is open 7 days a week from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and features live theater, a lounge and dining.
Cold Water Brewery & Grill features craft beer, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, as well as special events and live music.
Mont Bleu Resort and The Hard Rock Casino offer several restaurants, bars and lounges alongside casino entertainment.
Feel like dining right on the lake? Riva Grill is open daily for lunch and dinner and has some of the best views around!
There are also spectacular views (and great food) to be found at Brook’s Bar and Deck at Edgewood Tahoe, which features award-winning pub fare. (Golf Digest selected it as a “best golf pub” in 2016!)
Or enjoy good German food and bier (along with trivia and open mic nights) at Himmel Haus.
Feel like something a bit cozier? Jimmy’s Restaurant (at The Landing) features several private dining alcoves, each with their own fireplace! There are also 5 fire pits on the patio and roof-top deck, which overlooks the lake.
Finally, another popular spot is McP’s Taphouse Grill, which has 40 beers on tap and live music Thursdays through Mondays.

The Best Pizza in Tahoe

*Après-ski begs for great pizza… and Tahoe has it.*

We love pizza, and Tahoe boosts some of the best around! Some of our favorites are:

Lake Tahoe Pizza Company. This one’s a bit of a drive if you’re staying at the top of Kingsbury, but we think it’s worth it! The garlic chips make a wonderful appetizer, as does the salad bar, while you’re waiting for your pizza to cook.

Looking for something closer to home (when your home-away-from-home is the top of Kingsbury Grade)? Try Fox & Hound, another local favorite! With great views of the valley and a large menu (including burgers and BBQ), you can’t go wrong.

And for something right in the middle (at the Heavenly Village in Stateline), check out Base Camp Pizza Co. They often feature live music along with unique salads, wings and more.
