Autumn in the Texas Hill Country

Autumn is one of our favorite times to travel to Bandera. Here’s a small sample of the fun events happening in the Cowboy Capital of the World:

Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg (October 4th-6th): Held in downtown Fredericksburg, this event celebrates German heritage with music, food, drinks, artisans and more.
Texas Hill Country Musicfest (October 12th): Live music in the cowboy capital of the world!
Bandera Honors Veterans (November 9th): A parade, music and, of course, more bar-b-que!
Ford Holiday River Parade (November 29th): Come to San Antonio’s River Walk for this special event. Tickets are available here, or free seating is available on a first come basis (bring your own chairs!).
Dickens on Main (November 29th-30th): One of the most-loved events of the season, the 20th Annual Dickens on Main is held in the historical downtown of Boerne. Two days of family fun include a tree lighting ceremony, horse-drawn carriage rides and a chance to start your holiday shopping in the local shops. Don’t miss the concert held Saturday night!

Ranch House Cafe: A New Steakhouse in Bandera

Bandera has a new steakhouse, and it’s been getting rave reviews from out guests! Located at the Bandera Meat Market, the Ranch House Cafe offers both lunch and dinner menus. In addition to every kind of steak, you can find blackened snapper, grilled quail legs, chicken fried ribeye and more! Find their full menu and hours of operation here. While you’re there, visit the Bandera Meat Market to stock up on everything you need for your own BBQ at the resort!

Son’s Island: Lakeside Cabanas in the Texas Hill Country!

Son’s Island (located about an hour from our resort, in Sequin) is a wonderful place to spend a day in the Texas Hill Country! Rent a lakeside cabana for the day, go kayaking and paddle boarding, and enjoy the beauty of this special area. Each island cabana has a private floating dock, and some cabanas are located directly on the water. You can also swim, play beach volleyball, enjoy some BBQ and more! Stay Cool in Bandera

Looking for ways to cool off in the Texas Hill Country? Here are a few ideas:

The Medina River is a wonderful place for tubing and kayaking. Contact the Medina River Company in Bandera or Bandera City Park (also a great place for picnicking and swimming) for more information.
The Red Cove Cafe and Marina on Medina Lake in Mico, Texas doesn’t allow swimming but has excellent burgers; Joe’s Place Marina and Resort offers swimming, fishing and picnicking.
Prefer a water park? The Flying L Ranch Resort (right in Bandera) has a small but fun water park, as well as golf, horseback riding and other activities.
The Boerne City Lake Park offers a fishing pier, 9-hole frisbee golf, a butterfly garden, picnicking and more.
Or visit the Kerrville Olympic Pool, which charges only $1 for admission and has a kids’ pool and high dive boards.
The Louise Hayes Park in Kerrville also offers a cute splash area.
