Visiting Bandera this September? Here are a few goings-on about town (and nearby):

Celebrate Bandera (September 1-3): Join the Bandera festivities during Labor Day weekend.
Kendall County Fair (August 31-September 3): Since 1905, Boerne has hosted this county fair, rodeo and livestock show.
Kerrville Fall Music Festival (September 2-3): Another Labor Day weekend event, this festival boasts 3 days of music, craft beer seminars, wine seminars and more.
8th Annual Fredericksburg PBR (Professional Bull Riders) (September 9): Head to Fredericksburg for some real rodeo excitement, food and drinks.
Annual Cajun Festival & Gumbo Cook-Off (September 23): Cajun food, music on two stages, arts and crafts and more.

If you’re heading to Bandera this summer, there’s plenty to keep you occupied! Here are a few highlights for July and August:

For July 4th, check out Robert Earl Keen’s 4th on the River. Located in Kerrville, this all-day event features live music, food and beer, bounce houses and, of course, fireworks.
July 15th offers Night in Old Fredericksburg, a summer evening of food, live music, an evening dance and a chili cook-off.
July 22nd-23rd celebrates the National Day of the American Cowboy at the Frontier Times Museum. The Cowboy Capital of the World is the perfect place to honor the cowboy way!
August 24th-27th is the 129th annual Gillespie County Fair, the oldest county fair in Texas.
August 27th is the 109th birthday celebration for Lyndon B. Johnson. Tours of the Texas White House begin at 10:00 a.m., after a ceremony, and are free of charge.

Or perhaps you’d enjoy tubing and kayaking on the Medina River, a visit to the San Antonio Zoo or the always popular Cowboys on Main in Bandera. The list is so long, you may need to plan two trips!

Bandera in May & June

Planning a trip to the Bandera area for May or June? Here are a few of the many local events to consider:

Fiesta Noche Del Rio (San Antonio; Friday and Saturday nights from May 12th-August 12th): A summer outdoor performance on the River Walk, featuring the music of Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Texas. Since 1957, the show has been seen by over 1 million visitors from around the world, and raised over $2.75 million for local children’s charities.
Kerrville Folk Festival (May 25th-June 11th): An 18-day folk festival run annually since 1972.
Bandera Pro Rodeo (May 26-28th): A Memorial weekend rodeo in the cowboy capital of the world!
Rio Glow Hot Air Balloon Festival (Kerrville; June 2nd-3rd): This first-time event will feature tethered balloon rides, music, carnival rides and more, ending in a balloon light show and evening concert.
Texas Folklife Festival (San Antonio; June 9-11th): The biggest cultural celebration in Texas, celebrated annually for 46 years! Enjoy a wide variety of ethnic food, music, dance, arts and crafts.
Boerne Berges Fest (June 16-18th): Celebrate Father’s Day weekend with a family-friendly festival centered around the German heritage of the Boerne area.
Bandera RiverFest (June 24th): A family event on the Medina River with kayak races, paddles boats, music, a water rodeo and more!

Of course, Bandera offers its popular Cowboys on Main all summer long! (Saturdays, 1:00-4:00 pm) Gunfights are at high noon and 2:00.

Looking ahead to holiday travels? Dickens on Main in Boerne (Thanksgiving weekend) is a wonderful way to kick-off the season, with horse-drawn carriage rides, a tree-lighting ceremony and a Saturday night concert.

Downtown Tuesday: Budget-Friendly Fun in San Antonio!

Tuesdays are a wonderful time to explore San Antonio, with many of the top attractions available for FREE! Here are some of our favorites:

The Witte Museum — Where Nature, Science and Culture Meet. This “everything Texas” museum is at the top of our must-see list! It recently underwent a 2 year expansion, and admission is free every Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Permanent exhibits include dinosaur skeletons, cave drawings and wildlife dioramas.

The Briscoe Western Art Museum. This museum celebrates the history and culture of the American West, and is free every Tuesday from 4:00-9:00 p.m.

The DoSeum. This is San Antonio’s museum for kids. It emphasizes learning through doing, creating and tinkering. And it’s free the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month!

The San Antonio Museum of Art. This museum offers a wide range of collections, and is located in a castle-like building formerly known as Lone Star Brewery. Admission is free every Tuesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
