State Parks Near Bandera

View of the Medina River, from our Bandera resort

If you love beautiful scenery, it’s hard to beat the state parks located near our Bandera resort. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Lost Maples State Natural Area: It’s known for its fall color, but Lost Maples is spectacular year-round. With abundant wildflowers, the scenic Sabinal River and dramatic canyons, there’s lots to do for the entire family.
  • Garner State Park: Another beautiful area offering hiking, boating, fishing and much more! The park has also hosted summer dancing since the 1940s.
  • Guadalupe River State Park: Featuring the dramatic Guadalupe River, this park offers a beautiful place to swim, fish and canoe, as well as activities further from the river.
  • Enchanted Rock State Natural Area: The massive pink granite dome rising above central Texas gives this park its magical mystique. This is a wonderful area to hike and rock climb.

Of course, the scenery right at the resort is spectacular, too!

Creating Memories That Last a Lifetime

Here at Perennial Vacation Club, our mission is to help our members create memories that will last a lifetime. We start with beautiful home resorts in Lake Tahoe, Bandera and Daytona Beach Shores, as well as exchanges to destinations around the world. From there, our friendly staff will help you make the most of each location. Looking for other ways to make your next trip more meaningful for everyone involved? Here are a few ideas:

Plan special activities. Part of the fun is planning what you’ll do and where you’ll go, and this is exciting for everyone. Take some time to research what’s going on while you’ll be visiting your travel destination, and think about what places or events would be the most meaningful for your group. The search function on our Perennial Traveler Blog can help you do this (scroll down to the bottom of the page for the search bar).

Read a book together. Before the trip begins, choose a book that relates to your destination, or that you think everyone will enjoy, and plan to complete it by the end of the trip. This could be fiction, non-fiction or anything at all! Traveling alone? Consider what books on your to-read list you’d enjoy diving into during your travels. Local history or fiction that takes place on location is always a good choice.

Be open. Some of the best travel moments occur when you take an unexpected path. This could happen suddenly, when something comes along that looks promising, or you could plan in advance to try something a bit outside of your normal activities.

Discuss! Take the time to think (and talk) about your adventures. What was everyone’s favorite place, restaurant or memory? What would they want to include (or not) on the next trip? Thinking about what was truly special helps create memories that last.

What are your favorite way to make travel more meaningful?

The Fountain of Youth (and Pancakes)

Hiking at De Leon Springs

Looking for a unique breakfast experience, wildlife, boating and history? Not far from Daytona Beach Shores is De Leon Springs State Park, the area where legend says that Ponce de Leon discovered the Fountain of Youth. Start your visit with breakfast at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill Grill and Griddle House. Every table is equipped with a griddle; order a pitcher of homemade batter and cook your own pancakes. Then rent a paddle boat, canoe, kayak or tube, and float through over 1,000 acres of lakes, streams and canals. There are also historical and ecological tours. It’s easy to plan an entire day around this beautiful and fascinating area.

Happy travels!

Bently Heritage Estate Distillery

the Carlito still

Now open to the public! The Bently Heritage Estate Distillery, located in Minden, Nevada, is a short drive from our Tahoe resorts. The mill, over 100 years old and once the largest in the area, has been beautifully restored and modernized. Bently Ranch, located nearby, sustainably grows and harvests all of the grains used in production (and the barley is malted in-house, too).

Gin and vodka are currently offered, with whiskey coming as soon as it can be aged! Take a tour of the mill and creamery, and finish with a tasting of premium spirits while over-looking the single malt whiskey production area.
