Museums in Bandera

The pool at our Bandera resort; a good spot to rest between museum visits

Want to learn more about the Cowboy Capital of the World? Come explore some of Bandera’s museums!

  • Start with the Bandera Natural History Museum, where you can find replicas of dinosaurs and ice age animals on the 8 acre grounds, as well as native Texas plants and art exhibits.
  • The Frontier Times Museum is the oldest in Bandera. This eclectic and eccentric collection honors the history of the American cowboy.
  • Another unusual museum in Bandera is the Town Mountain Miniature Museum. This newer addition to the area offers all kinds of tiny treasures, including many vintage items, and some are for sale in the gift shop.

Bandera’s Best BBQ

If you’re planning a visit to the Texas Hill Country, local BBQ is a must! Here are a few of our favorites around the Bandera area:

  • Busbee’s Bar-B-Que is a great choice for families. It was even featured on the History Channel a few years ago!
  • Another popular stop is Sid’s Main Street BBQ, for truly home-cooked, southern-style BBQ.
  • Or perhaps you feel like grilling some of your own? We love the 11th Street Cowboy Bar, which invites you to bring your own meat and grill it on their Texas-sized BBQ pits every Wednesday. They also offer live music, side orders, spices and all the other “fixins” you’ll need!
